Prestigeous award for Norbert Rubey!

The new historical-critical edition of Franz Lehár’s operetta Die lustige Witwe (The Merry Widow), edited by Norbert Rubey and published by Doblinger Musikverlag, Vienna, has received the Best Edition 2006 award in the category Scholarly Score Editions – Individual Works from the Association of German Music Publishers.

The jury of seven experts gave the following reasons for the award:

This edition documents the authentic version while taking into consideration other extant versions. It should be regarded as the basis for every production of the work. The layout and overall presentation of the edition are also convincing.

There were over one hundred entries, submitted by twenty-six publishing houses, in this category. Eleven prizes were awarded.

The Vienna Institute for Strauss Research would like to congratulate Norbert Rubey, its head of research, on this distinguished award.

The City of Vienna is fortunate to have such a scholar in its service.
