    Considerations about the general topic:

Who were all the people behind the unique successes of the Strauss family of musicians in Vienna? For entertainment music in Vienna in the nineteenth century musical talents alone were not enough, definitely not for the way the whole world has been reached and long-lasting success achieved for the music of the Strausses for nearly two hundred years. Three generations of the family created some 1,600 pieces of music, as well as organising and performing innumerable concerts for tours in Austria and abroad, from Russia to America.

There is very little known generally about those who helped to build up over these worldwide careers, even among musicologists and, unfortunately, in university departments at home and abroad, although there have recently been indications that Strauss research is now accepted in these circles.

Hardly anyone knows the names of those who paved the way for the Strauss family. Who knows who was working behind the scenes for Strauss & Co. or was even pulling the levers? If you mention their names, there are many ‘friends of Strauss’, and even some scholars, who will deny the names mean real people, because nobody wants to undermine the monument, let alone knock it down.

But honour to those who deserve it.

Johann Strauss I developed a business model which his sons Johann, Josef and Eduard had to take over and continue to develop. To what extent does this recipe for success still work today?

It is necessary to demonstrate how successful teamwork developed in the field of entertainment music in the nineteenth century. It produced models which can still be practised and developed further. Strauss music continues to be effective when it lives on its authenticity – less so in connection with fashions that come and go. That is why attention must be paid to those who paved the way for the fame of the Strauss dynasty. What did they contribute?
